Academic programs

The school offers subjects from the General Certificate of Education (GCE-British system), International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and the American System (SAT I or SAT II). These streams can be equated to the Tawjihi.

____Preparation for the ordinary level examinations (O-levels) of the GCE and IGCSE takes two years beginning with 9th grade. The curriculum provides a broad and balanced range of subjects: classical Arabic, English, mathematics, biology, human biology, chemistry, physics, and world history.

____ Preparation for the advanced level examinations (A-levels) takes two further years of intensive study. Courses offered at the advanced level are modern Arabic, biology, mathematics, chemistry and physics. English literature and history can be offered if enough students want those subjects.

____The SAT II program is designed mainly for students who want to enter American universities worldwide and for students who want Jordanian Tawjihi equivalence in order to enter Jordanian colleges and universities. The subjects offered are English literature, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, world history, American history, and Spanish. A-Level Arabic was included as one of the options in the 2007/08 academic year. Seven exams must be passed in order to equate with the Tawjihi diploma. Passing scores (450 or higher) in science subjects and mathematics are required for scientific stream equivalence while passing scores in language and social science subjects are needed for literary stream equivalence.

Tawjihi Equivalence

To obtain equivalence to the Tawjihi diploma, the following conditions apply:

1) The student must pass six O-level subjects and two A-level subjects. Passing grades are as follows:

____a. O-level GCE or IGCSE: A, B, C, and D.
____b. A-level/Advanced Subsidiary (AS): A, B, C, D, and E.

2) For the Arab student, one of the eight subjects must be Arabic language either at O-level or A-level.

3) To obtain equivalency with the Tawjihi scientific stream ("A'ilmi"), one of the A-level subjects and two of the O-level subjects must be from the applied sciences or mathematics.

4) To obtain equivalency with the Tawjihi literary stream ("Adabi"), one of the A-level subjects and two of the O-level subjects must be from the humanities or social sciences.

5) The Ministry of Education for Tawjihi equivalency purposes considers that each two AS passing grades are equivalent to one A-level provided both AS grades are within the same field. Both AS subjects should be either from the literary or from the scientific stream. This condition may not apply for university acceptances and the school advises students to check with universities for their particular entrance requirements.
