Ms. Liana, Art
Ms. Liana is the new AHSS Art teacher. This is her second year teaching, last year she taught at the Amman Academy. Ms. Liana has been doing art for as long as she can remember.
“Starting with the simplest, dumbest doodles in my school notebooks and colored pencils. Now I work with multiple mediums. I do paintings, I do polymer clay, whatever you think of I can do it, even digital art,” Ms. Liana said. “It’s a way of expression for me, it’s just who I am.”
For Ms. Liana it is rewarding to share her love of art with students of all ages.
“It’s just wonderful seeing what kids can come up with,” she said. “When pushing the kids to express more, to try something new, it’s really fun to see what they can come up with and all their fun ideas and little twists they can make on my original idea. It really becomes really fun. I really enjoy my time with the kids.”
Ms. Liana’s fun fact is that she has a cat named Twix with a snaggle tooth and eyes that look in two different directions!
Ms. Maryan, First Grade Homeroom
Ms. Maryan is a homeroom teacher for grade one. She recently graduated from the American University of Madaba. She loves working with young learners.
“I love children, from when I was at school studying for my subject I had a board at my house and I would imagine that there were some students in my room and give a class. The passion for teaching started from when I was at school,” Ms. Maryan said.
Ms. Maryan is a storyteller who enjoys writing and telling stories. She’s excited about the new school year as part of the AHSS staff.
“I am kind with the students and not strict with them,” Ms. Maryan said. “I hope your children will have a wonderful time at our school.
Ms. Maryan’s fun fact is that she is a very kind person. She is gentle and forgiving with young learners!
Ms. Sarah, IGCSE Chemistry
Ms. Sarah is joining AHSS as the chemistry teacher for the IGCSE high school students. She has been teaching for nine years in both the UAE and Jordan.
“I am very excited and I’m very happy that all the staff is very nice and very comfortable,” Ms. Sarah said.
Ms. Sarah graduated as a chemical engineer and worked in the UAE as an engineer for three years. Then she made the switch to teaching.
“I love teaching because I love to deal with the students in different ages especially in grade nine, ten,” Ms. Sarah said. “I like to meet new teachers and new students to be different than the routine that we used to work with.”
Ms. Sarah said her fun fact is that sometimes she feels like she has a mix of characteristics. Sometimes students will see differences within the same class!
Ms. Suzanne, IGCSE Spanish/Resource Room
Ms. Suzanne is joining AHSS as both a Spanish Language teacher for the IGCSE Program and as a resource room teacher. Ms. Suzanne has been teaching since 2012. She taught the English and French Languages to students in several different countries.
“I love watching the kids get enthusiastic about learning a new language,” Ms. Suzanne said. “And the kids basically make me younger again.”
Ms. Suzanne is looking forward to teaching language to students of all ages at AHSS.
“I’m excited, it’s going to be a new adventure, I’m looking forward to being back in the classroom.”
Ms. Suzanne’s fun fact is that she’s a very international person. She’s from Canada, but has lived in Austrailia, Spain, and Palestine. She even worked for a while on a cruise ship around the western United States and French Polynesia.
Ms. Heba, Arabic
Ms. Heba is rejoining AHSS as an Arabic Language teacher this school year. She previously taught for three years at AHSS both as an Arabic and a Kindergarten Teacher. Before that she had two years of teaching experience at other schools in Amman.
“My favorite thing about teaching is when I see that the students understand me and get high scores in their exams,” Ms. Heba said.
Ms. Heba works hard to make her classes fun. She enjoys teaching the Arabic Language.
“It’s fun to teach Arabic. Because this is our first language, it’s our traditional language,” Ms. Heba said.
Ms. Heba’s fun fact is that she has a hard time remembering the names of roads. In fact, she remembers her way home because of a watermelon truck parked at the top of her street. She hopes that truck never moves!
Ms. Raghad, P.E.
Ms. Raghad is joining AHSS as a PE teacher for the high school girls. She has previously worked as a volleyball coach with students at AHSS. This will be her first year teaching, even though she has several years of coaching experience.
“I’m so excited,” Ms. Raghad said. “Inshallah this year will be something good!”
Ms. Raghad was a student-teacher at AHSS in 2023 while working on her degree from the Hashemite University. She has been a part of the AHSS community for several years and loves working with kids.
“It’s fun and cool to work with kids,” Ms. Raghad said. “I like to see them grow up and take the skills from me. I like seeing them take the skills we work on and practice them.”
Ms. Raghad’s fun fact? Everything about her is fun!
Ms. Yasmeen, Science/Biology
Ms. Yasmeen is joining AHSS as a science and biology teacher. She will be working with other science teachers to enrich science education and activities at our school. Ms. Yasmeen graduated from AHSS and came back to teach for several years after she graduated from university.
“I love teaching. It’s not only something that’s really enriching to actually change students lives, but it changes you. It causes you to learn, and to grow, and to think in different ways,” Ms. Yasmeen said. “I just love to see them become passionate about things and light up.”
Ms. Yasmeen is the grandaughter of AHSS co-Founder, the late Dr. Sue Dahdah. She is also the daughter of current AHSS Director Ustaz Tarek Dahdah.
“Education is in my blood having watched my grandmother and my dad teaching,” Ms. Yasmeen said. “I just want to make sure that the students are having fun, that they’re learning, and that they feel like they are global citizens capable of making a difference.”
Ms. Yasmeen’s fun fact about herself is that she has collections of everything. Insects, rocks, mummified animals, if it’s related to what they are learning in class, she will be bringing her collections in!
